St. Thomas is known around the world for its exquisite shopping and rare novelties that it has to offer. Whether it be jewelry, rum, watches, art, crystal or cameras, people come from all over to peruse and purchase these items duty-free. St. Thomas shopping is one of the many reasons that this island remains one the most popular Caribbean cruise destinations.

Charlotte Amalie, the island’s capital and center, houses the majority of these specialty shops. Dronningens Gade, known as Main Street, is where you will find boutiques lining the street and surrounding off-shoots. This is also a great place to break up your shopping day with a nice lunch at a nearby café or a drink at one of the area various bars.

Several important things to keep in mind during your excursion:

~  The shops are usually only open for half a day on Sunday (till 1:00 pm), but if there are no ships in the port, they may not open at all on Sunday.
~   Shopping in St Thomas is particularly attractive because most of the shops are duty free, but note that the duty free exemption is $1,600 when traveling back to the U.S.
