I usually spend a couple weeks out of the summer at the Ritz Carlton Club Bachelor Gulch and one of the best ways to spend an afternoon is taking a bicycle out into Avon, Beaver Creek, or along the Eagle River towards Edwards.  Bachelor Gulch is the hub of these authentic mountain communities.  My favorite part is riding down the windy hill towards Avon and taking in the crisp air of Colorado.  I love to challenge myself to see how long I can cruise without using brakes.

Then you can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle to the top of Beaver Creek and take the trail back down to Avon. It is so much fun to wind in and out of Aspen, waving to your fellow pedal pushers and enjoying a friendly downhill slalom competition with a friend. It is just the neatest, tree lined, concrete path down the mountain, full of little ups, downs, curves, and the occasional variation. Another great path is along Eagle River to Edwards.

Edwards is a cute village full of restaurants, bars, and boutiques just west of Bachelor Gulch. My favorite restaurant in Edwards is Juniper. The last time I went there, I had this great bib lettuce salad with pomegranate seeds and a lemon vinaigrette, but all of the items, especially the deserts are to die for. The path along the river is so beautiful at dusk, when it’s still warm but everything feels quaint and peaceful. It’s only a 30 minutes and you get to ride by a couple charming neighborhoods with people walking their dogs and hosting barbeques.

For the true biycicle enthusiast, there are many different trails and routes of various skill levels on Bachelor Gulch and Avon ski mountains.  Also, Beaver Creek mountain, which is a ten minute shuttle or car ride and probably hour bike ride uphill if you are so inclined offers the option to take the chair lift up or down to compliment a ride on any of the trails along the Beaver Creek Resort mountain.

And of course, if you are truly a glutton for punishment, you can ride back up the hill towards Bachelor Gulch.  No matter which trail you take, bicycling in Colorado Rockies is a breathtaking way to enjoy an environmentally friendly activity.
