Caribbean Vacation: St. Thomas to Coral Bay, St. John

St. John is less developed than St. Thomas, but is just as beautiful. Don't forget to take the ferry over when you're staying at the Ritz Carlton Club St. Thomas!
St. John's Coral Bay is quieter and quirkier than Cruz Bay. While on the way to Coral Bay, you'll see Bordeaux Mountain Overlook. This is a very scenic spot that also has refreshments and some shopping.
All roads in St. John eventually lead to Coral Bay, and you'll know you're there when you reach The Triangle, a fork in the road that will take you to two different neighborhoods. Going straight/left will take you to the East End, and you'll drive through Hurricane Hole and Haulover Bay to Round Bay, where you can see all the way to Tortola (the largest and most popular of the British Virgin Islands). This neighborhood is a popular residence of local artists. You can find unusual shopping and restaurants there, as well as dogs and other animals who sometimes sleep in the middle of the road!
Recommended restaurants in the East End are:
- St. John Bar & Restaurant
- Sweet Plantains
- Shipwreck Landing
- Aqua Bistro
- Miss Lucy's
- Larry's Hot Dogs
- The Tourist Trap (popular tourist bar and restuarant)
Take a right at The Triangle to go to Salt Pond, Coral Harbor, and Ram's Head. Salt Pond is a great snorkeling spot, and Ram's Head is famous for full-moon hiking.
Recommended eateries are:
- Donkey Diner for breakfast
- Miss Vie's Snack Shack for fried chicken and Johnny cakes
- Skinny Legs, the unofficial town hall of Coral Bay
- Sputnik's for reggae music
