Tea services in San Francisco most closely resemble English Low Tea, or Afternoon Tea, is taken from 3pm to 5pm. Afternoon Tea typically consists of loose tea brewed in tea pots and served with milk and sugar. Small sandwiches (such as cucumber, ham and smoked salmon), scones, and other cakes and pastries accompany the tea. Formal afternoon tea is usually done in a hotel, cafe or tea shop.

English High Tea is a heavier meal that is sometimes consumed in lieu of dinner, consisting of cold meats and cheeses, as well as the small sandwiches and pastries.

The Ritz Carlton in San Francisco serves a wonderful English afternoon tea in their Lobby Lounge.

The Ritz Carlton in San Fracisco has the most luxurious tea service available in the hotel's Lobby Lounge. The hotel is located only 5 short blocks southeast from the Ritz Carlton Club, making it easy to take a morning walk down there to enjoy a relaxing high tea. The Lobby Lounge is cozy, elegant, and the view offers great people watching.

Tea Services include:

- Traditional Tea ($29) comes on a tiered carousel with tea sandwiches (Norwegian Smoked Salmon with Pickled Onion and Caviar; Cucumber, Roquefort and Walnuts; Prosciutto and Melon; Egg and Chive), scone with Devonshire Cream, lemon curd, preserves, English Tea cakes, fresh fruit tartlet, a Madelein, a Florentine, and shortbread.
- Premier Tea ($34) is the Traditional Tea plus a champagne cocktail.
- Royal Tea ($41) is the Traditional Tea plus champagne, chocolate and strawberries.
- Teddy Bear Christmas Tea is a famous seasonal tea service for children. Children are served hot chocolate, teddy bear cookies, peanut butter and jelly, egg salad, and ham and cheese sandwiches while the Ritz Carlton Teddy tells classic Christmas stories.

The Garden Court at the Sheraton Palace is one of the most beautiful dining rooms in San Francisco. A harpist playes soothing background music during tea time, and the white glove service leaves patrons feeling pampered and luxurious.

- Garden Court Tea ($40) includes scones, cream, marmalade, honey, lemon curd, pastries, fruit tarts, and tiny sandwiches. Add a glass of sparkling wine for $8 or champagne for $14.
- Exclusive Tea for Two ($98) includes two full Garden Court Tea services plus a half bottle of champagne.
- Prince and Princess Tea ($32) for little boys and girls includes pastries, sandwiches, and a crown and scepter!

Some say that the Windsor Tea Room is the most genuine British tea experience. This tea room also has a comfortable atmosphere.

- King George's tea ($18) is their most elaborate tea service, and includes bottomless tea, scone with preserves and Double Devon Cream, mixed green salad, two tea sandwiches, tea cookies, fresh fruit tart.
- Cheese and Fresh Fruit Platter ($8.25) is the dish that most resembles English High Tea, featuring assorted cheeses, seasonal fruits, fresh bread, and a glass of wine or sherry. Perfect for pre-theater dinner!

The Laurel Court is another elegant setting for afternoon tea. Patrons can order á la carte or spirits by the glass.

- Standard Tea ($32) features homemade scones with lemon curd, Dvonshire cream and Sonoma perserves; finger sandwiches, French pastries, and champagne.
- Caviar tea service is available for an extra $25, and includes the Standard Tea plus caviar and better champagne.

- High Tea ($25) features finger sandwiches, mini scones with lemon curd, Devonshire Cream, preserves, petit fours, fruit tartlet, assorted tea cookies. Mumm Cuvée champagne is available for an extra charge of $10.

Lovejoy's English Tea Room is a popular San Francisco tea room.

This quaint, antique filled tea room is a San Francisco favorite among women who take tea there to celebrate special occasions, such as showers and birthdays. Lovejoy's is one of the few tea rooms whose services closely resemble English High Tea. Some women get dressed up in large hats and long, white gloves. The atmosphere is more quirky and eclectic than pretentious - the plates are mismatched and you can even purchase your teapot!
